Inspiration

The first Christmas in early America was celebrated by Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto and his exploration crew near Tallahassee, Florida. As early American colonies began to officially settle in the New World, many continued the Christmas festivities that they celebrated in their home country with feasts, a merry-making atmosphere, and the continuance of important traditions. Colonies like Williamsburg were known for decadent Christmas feasts and balls, wreath-adorned houses, and cozily lit, 6-ft tall iron street baskets, known as cressets. Today, Williamsburg remains a wonderful place to visit during the holiday season to see festivities re-created with food, music, dancing, shopping and cheer.
